Jon,
That signal is still in place; had to go take a look at it as I wasn't sure if the middle target had been removed (has not) when the Fairview Pit siding was taken out. The "pit" was the next siding east, less than two miles distant.
The signal bridge was obviously designed to hold another mast, but I never recall one being there. Perhaps there never was; will have to do some research.
I did scan the slide at a higher res, and cropped it. Did pick up that the second unit was the 869, but while overall quality is good, it's not publication worthy. Have some set aside for professional scanning, and will throw this into that group.

On the other board, mentioned catching the 867 headed south yesterday (6/29/12) after she had set out what appeared to be an inspection car at Wallace. Was not able to identify the car due to its location. Would presume it is for NS to pick up. Anyway, was pleased to see the unit on the Erie Branch. Will post several photos, starting with this one crossing Rt 20 in Girard. Attachments:

Lastly, looking south (into the sun) from Cole Spring Road on June 29, 2012. Traffic on the Erie Main (I still like to think of it as such) is certainly minimal, and it's nice to see one of the 38's. Attachments:

That old girl looks good for being 41 years and counting. It ain't as intense of a job as an ore drag, but it beats being retired or OOS. Always glad to see a wheel turn on the Erie Branch. Mind if I use one of those photos as the home page photo?

Was scanning some slides for the TO site, and came across this one showing the aftermath of a CR derailment in May of 1985. An EB train was detouring over the NS during the four month period when CR's line was closed owing to the Elk Creek culvert collapse. This scene shows a WB at what was "West End Girard," now designated as "CP Girard." Note the trackage on the south (right) side of the CR train. This was the western (along NS) end of the Wallace Jct yard which connected to the NS main at this point. It is about 3/4 mile from the current west end of the yard The connection was never made again after this derailment took out the switch. This end of the yard may have been NS owned trackage. Photo was taken from the Rt 18 bridge. Attachments:

Looking thru some old B&W negs, and came across this shot of a northbound on the Erie Branch on the trestle over Elk Creek, several miles south of Girard. Second unit is the 451, but can't ID the F leading. No specific date, other than 1965. Attachments:
