Coal has been moving north for some time now on the BLE sub. Today marked another move, Coke from Clairton was moved up and handed off to the B&P.
Two commodities back in 2014!

Thanks.Looks like I'm about 6 months too late.... Do you know if this board gets much traffic? Most of the posts seem fairly old.

Coal still continues to move north. As far as infrequent posts, yea not much traffic on this site. I try to post here every so often as I put some equipment history and modeling projects here but noone seems to care for this site. Some avoid it like the plague so it seems, yet desire a historical society for the B&LE. This place is the closest thing to a historical society there is. It doesn't remove your posts and threads over time, there are separate sections to categorize posts, and is visible to the public so they may actually find info they seek about the railroad but it gets rejected.

Coal coal and more coal will start back up early spring with the return of the Great Lakes shipping season. Right now a short break in the action as the lakes are basically shut down for winter layup. Coal traffic will increase this spring. It is uncertain just how much of in increase it will be I am hearing anything from doubling to tripling from last year. Also its really sounding like coke will move north to Conneaut as well.
It is a shame this site is very inactive. I like the idea of categories, and how information isnt pushed off the page after time. Too many haters on the other board that dont want to have to register i suppose

Hey Bob, any more news on that sand traffic?

The facility is ready to go. Waiting on the operator to schedule sand in that area.
Frac sand is a strange business. Talk about boom and bust of drilling. They will run the heck out of a sand transload and bam as soon as wells are moved around its all gone. I imagine when certain well sites are started in the area over night it will be cranking out truck loads. We'll see

The frac sand facility remains idle at this time. Hi-Crush still plans to unload sand at the facility when well sites open up in the area.
Coal remains strong, yesterday 5/7/15 marked the return of coal interchange off the B&P in Butler. This is coal originating on the B&P and heading for Conneaut.
Anybody remember the last time coal was interchanged at Calvin?

Traffic update for the BLE sub.
With the introduction of the SD70 and higher HP to the BLE sub CN has been doing what they have wanted to achieve for some time now. Currently only one ore train is scheduled per day. This is the early morning train into North Bessemer, they have been averaging 100-120 loads of ore per turn. This crew also takes coal loads back to Conneaut. The second turn now is simply moving empty coal south and empty ore north. If contamination wasnt an issue we would only be seeing one train a day now.

905 has been leading the Trains recently. Get her while you can before she leaves the property, I might head out there myself.

Traffic news worthy of note:
Unit pipe trains have been occasionally moving between North Bessemer and interchange with the B&P at Calvin. These trains are then again a hand off with the CN in Buffalo.
Coal continues to move, soon to slow down with the end of the Great Lakes shipping season and a low demand due to the horrible market for steel right now. All arrows point at continuing coal through 2016.

Thats great news about the coal.
The pipe loads are from I believe Canada. They are routed CN-BPRR-BLE-URR to Durabond in Duquesne. I've been told there will be about 200 carloads of them total (can't remember everything I'm only human), and that they get them in cuts of 8-40 cars at a time, give or take.
