Here are three projects I have under way which are close to being finished. From top to bottom:
B&LE A502, side dump. This is an old Authenticast metal kit. I got this car and another one from a friend and decided to try to build THESE CARS with them. There aren't enough parts to finish the second one so I'll probably only do this one.
BLE 16000, Evans coil car. This is a foobie the real Bessemer cars are longer than the Walthers model I started wih. I changed the stirrups and added an air reservoir to try to get it to look like the real car even though its not perfect. THIS is what I'm going for I just hope I have enough decals to finish it thats a lot of zeros in the number.
A black 3 bay offset hopper. I haven't picked an exact number yet. I found an undec Bowser kit and decided to do a black car instead of brown because everybody has the brown ones. I should be able to splice the dimensional data from decals but I gotta try to find the correct number font.

I finished the coil car this summer but never shared a photo of it completed:
Not my layout in the above photo. I should have removed the stock stirrup steps. I have three covers for it. Two solid black covers and a grey one. The grey cover has a pair of black Highball Graphics locomotive nose emblems on it. There are no decals to make these coil cars. I used several sets of decals that are actually meant to do the 31000 series clamshell cars in black since the lettering is the same style. All of the dimensional data is cut and spliced to get what I needed, almost every digit is applied separately. I'll never do one of these cars again since I had to cut the decals out like that.
I have the black offset hopper I showed above ready for decals. I found a photo of one that had the same roman style font that the brown cars had so I'll model that car. The side dump is fully painted and decaled but I ran into a problem with the truck. They don't fit. I guess I need to use a short wheelbase truck with small wheels so the wheels don't hit the underframe.

Looks Good! I like the weathering on the gray cover.

looking good.
Would be right in place being shoved into Armco for another load of coils.

Thanks! I made the grey cover once I found a pic of a car that had the Bessemer emblem on it. These cars seemed to have a number of cover variations. Angled grey covers with black "COIL COACH" stenciled on the side, solid grey, grey with black Bessemer emblem, corrugated red oxide with BLE reporting mark on ends, all black angled, black angled with BLE stenciled on ends, and round black covers with the emblem and car number on them. I'd like to do an all black car but unless someone were to make an actual decal set for them I don't see me making one or even another orange car. Way too much involved in cutting out the decals.

I'll probably get an Atlas gondola and do one of the 32000 series "Coil Coach" cars with it. That, the above coil car and one of the rebuilt Bachmann clamshell cars would be nice together. Maybe even one of the pale blue gondolas too:

I added a couple more cars to my roster. I got a lot of 15 coil cars in the spring and one of them was the Walthers Bessemer car sans the covers and some minor parts. I'll be finishing it with my own covers and adding the "1" to the road number plus weathering. I still gotta order the trucks for the side dump I started above. Then I have 2 Bowser Rock Island hoppers that I'll patch and weather to be late 90's era cars. Finally I might start tinkering with the old Bachmann clamshell covered gondolas. I got a bunch of detail parts for them so I may rebuild a few and leave some in factory paint and repaint others into the black scheme. I'll post more as I begin this stuff in the coming weeks hopefully.

What trucks are you using for the side-dump? Looks like 2 different types in your reference picture.

At this point I don't care which trucks as long as it runs. When I put trucks under it the wheels hit the pistons that tip the body to unload. So I was thinking to just get some short wheelbase trucks and put small 28 inch wheelsets in maybe that will help.

Thats what I plan on doing. I figure the Walthers trucks plus 28 inch wheelsets is about all there is to do. I have no idea if this kit is even meant to be operable. For all I know the kit may have been designed to be a siding queen and not be able to be operated.
