This was a car I had thought about building for a long time. The only way to get one is to scratchbuild but I'm not that talented to do a whole car or any car for that matter. Looking around led me to find a car that I felt resembled a QD and that got me wondering if I could maybe take one of those cars and kitbash one into a Quick Dump hopper.
In January 2013 I found a cheap NOS kit at a local show and decided to try it. The first thing I did was stripped it then proceeded to remove all of the ribs from it. Shaving the side ribs was very tedious. I ended up setting the car down for a few months and did other things then picked it back up and removed a few grab irons before setting it down again. Picked it up again and this time began looking into some styrene shapes I would need to create the partitions, discharge gates and side ribs. I made a list and lost it in a magazine and ended up putting the car away. I recently began thinking about it again and got it out. I still gotta find my list but after looking at the car in its current state it reaffirmed to me that its possible to do these in HO and even N scale, in fact N scale may be even easier than HO. I have only heard of people trying to model these cars so I decided to take a picture of what I have so far (not much). Once I finish up a couple cars and engines I'll get back to this.
