Intermountain is releasing EMD SD38-2 models in N scale.
Included in the first batch will be B&LE in 4 road numbers 870,872,875,879. Units can be purchased in DC, DCC, and DCC Sound.
In addition USS sister roads DMIR and EJ&E will be available in the first run.

Thats neat to see them in N. Makes sense since IM is doing them in HO too. Fills a big void in the N scale market for steel road modelers and in turn helps open the door for more people to model those roads in N scale.

Need to do a definitive analysis of truck spacing. The Athearn SD40-2 is apparently the shortest, to accommodate tight curves. The Kato didn't seem much shorter than the Scaletrains, although I didn't measure the exact spacing. There also needs to be a good comparison of HT-C truck fidelity.

I'd say Athearn sideframes still hold their own. I have seen the ST SD40-2's in person but didn't really check out the truck details. I don't think Athearn will do the SD38-2, but I'm sure they will do the SD38AC. They did them before with the older RPP tooling so it makes sense they will redo them in the new modular RTR setup.
