It's that time of year, again - brief as it is - in Bessemer Country. The bright yellow forsythia bushes and pink-lavender magnolia trees have suddenly begun 'exploding' in bloom along the line. As I've said in previous years, this MAY be the last opportunity to capture these colorful residents along the B&LE whilst the units are still painted orange and black. Of course, the various shades of dogwood and flowering crab-apple trees will be blooming, soon, too.
There are a number of locations where these fleeting color riots could be worked spectacularly into 'otherwise ordinary' shots of orange SDs on hoppers. There's a nice magnolia along the west berm of PA Route 18 on the south side of Albion, just north of the angled grade crossing (across from where RX Tower stood). There is also a nice hedge of forsythia along Quarry Hill Road south of M.P. 85 and the Methodist Road underpass for the K-O (High) Line, south of Greenville. There's lots of photographic talent out there: have fun!
