The last regularly scheduled B&LE passenger trains made their final runs 59 years ago today, March 5, 1955.
Train No. 12 ran from Greenville to Erie and could complete the 62.9 mile trek in about two hours. It would turn around and become No. 13 and return to Greenville later that day. In the final years of passenger service, these two trains were the only two left, service from Greenville to North Bessemer had ended in 1952.
SD7 number 801 had the honors of pulling the last 12 and 13. On the return trip, No. 13 had to detour over the KO Line due to high water at Osgood on the Old Line.
Here is a video showing the last runs:www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoy4cQJnjOM
